Treatment Options Are As Unique As You!

There are many different options when it comes to managing the symptoms of chronic illness. There is Western medicine which includes pharmaceutical drugs. There is Eastern medicine which includes mind, body, and soul treatments with natural herbs, meditation, message, and acupuncture. There is also integrative medicine that takes from both Western and Eastern medicine and uses both as treatment. So what do you choose and where do you start?

The fist thing you need to do is have a optimistic attitude when it comes to ANY treatment. You’ve probably heard of the placebo effect, which happens when people put enough faith in a treatment that it works better than it should. In fibromyalgia, a new study has revealed what researchers call the “nocebo” effect, which means that we are so skeptical that the treatment is less effective than it aught to be. In fact, they found that about 10% of fibromyalgia patients on placebo dropped out of trials due to side effects. Information source via   @ About.com

The mind is everything. What you think you become.

I think that the internet is a wonderful tool for support and we are at an advantage to the generations before us when it comes to the information we obtain about our Chronic illnesses Via the internet. The one thing that does concern me (I see  often) is people saying a diet, medication, or any treatment did not work for them and how that changes the attitude of others that the treatment would or might work for them. Our bodies are unique and we have to approach our treatment options with that in mind. What works for one may not work for another and to go into any treatment plan with skepticism can have a negative affect on the outcome of that treatment. Our minds are more powerful then we can even fathom and you have the power and free will to change your attitude when it comes to your treatment options. Also listen to your body. If something is not right your body will let you know. Just makes sure it is no skepticism influancing the treatment option you choose.
