As if becoming chronically ill is not enough, the stress of financial loses and stuggles are enough to make a well person physically and emotionally drained. If you become sick to the point you can no longer work and you are the main source of income for yourself or your family there are some changes you can make to minimize the financial burden as much as possible.
If you can, continue to work part time with modifications

The Americans with disability (ADA) is on your side.Since the 1970s, “reasonable accommodation” has been required by the regulations of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, and the Department of Justice, pursuant to sections 501, 503, and 504, respectively, of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Making “reasonable accommodation” to the known physical or mental limitations of a qualified applicant or employee with a disability is generally regarded as a key to the successful employment of persons with disabling conditions. The ADA defines “reasonable accommodation” as efforts that may include:
- Making existing employee facilities accessible to individuals with disabilities
- Job restructuring
- Part-time or modified work hours
- Acquisition or modification of equipment or devices
- Appropriate adjustment or modifications of examinations, training materials, or policies
- Provision of qualified readers or interpreters
- Reassignment to a vacant position
- The birth of a son or daughter of the employee and the care of such son or daughter
- The placement of a son or daughter with the employee for adoption or foster care
- The care of spouse, son, daughter, or parent of the employee who has a serious health condition
- A serious health condition of the employee that makes the employee unable to perform the essential functions of his or her positions

I’ve been told that I am not going to be getting better… BUT I have Lyme… now that’s going to be an big event in getting it seen as a problem.
It’s more easy to get seen in having MS… even IF you’d been told AND also paid for your Blood exams for having Herpes 6 so how sick are you? Well how about the SPECIALISTS more interested on getting you one Drugs.
Who’ll be paying for them? How about with your health!!!
I do relate .. I have had fibromyalgia for 30yrs.. about 20yrs ago had a severe neck injury from an accident when someone hit me .. then 10I years ago lyme was added to the mix.. each time I got knocked down a peg spent time out if work but managed to get back in my feet and back in the game .. it us hard to convince an employer to hire you it was hard getting in the work game with limitations .. but my last employer just did not want to work with me even though I was a part timer I lost my job anyway .. took me another 3 yrs if battling asa for benefits no income I was a single parent .. not good .. lost my house went into subsidized housing bank foreclosed they still say 10 yrs later I owe them 24 grand they didn’t get from the short sale .. wont ever happen on my ss a .. to this day no better health wise still in an apartment kids grown on there own just surviving on 700to a month .. when I was able to work it was 40a grand a year .. a big life change .. drs appts on a reg basis .. never will have a new car again in my life on live month to month cash basis .. simple .. but better that being homeless and at one time this illness put me there because of no income .. people don’t understand and they judge still .. we work hard for what we get and it all goes out the window in a heartbeat overnight just like that .. but I can be thankful I have a few small simple things and I will hold and cherish them .. and move forward with peace ..
Currently .. struggle.. getting through the month. Just food and gas to get to drs appts each week is a challenge .. god forbid a breakdown .. or need for an extra med or something it would not happen .. everything is on a tight budget to make it through anything happens to through it off extra appt whatever and u off the rest of the month and spend the last week not having food ir gas .. rescheduling something .. not fun .. but all you can do .. on a month to month check .. still better than no money and when you go 3from years battling to get benefits afterfighting a year to get your job back .. you are so far in the whole there is no climbing out .. all you can do is pack your bags and walk away .. and hope the next step of your journey will be a better one ..
